It Is Exactly What God Would Do…

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19).

It is unthinkable that God, who is Light, would leave anybody in the dark who is seeking to find a way out into His presence. The Psalmist affirms, “For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalm 18:28). Thus we have every reason to believe that God would come to our aid, and male a way for us to know Him and have fellowship with Him. It is His nature to do so. It is exactly what God would do. Therefore we have no reason to doubt that The Bible has been given to us by God, for it uniquely accomplishes that very thing, and in so doing meets our deepest needs.

"The Lord gave the Word; great was the company that published it." (Psalm 68:11)

“The Lord gave the Word; great was the company that published it.” (Psalm 68:11)

Paul the Apostle puts it this way, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). Is there a God? What is He like? Who am I? Why am I here? Is there anyway I can know God, and find fulfillment in my life?

All these questions, and many more, are answered soundly in the Bible as in no other book. What the sun is to our world, The Bible is to our lives. And the fact that we now have a hard copy of this One book, which has been printed and distributed around the world more than any other single book in history, is a monumental testimony to God’s loving kindness and faithfulness.

Mankind NEEDS a Divine revelation couched in human language and committed to writing. We cannot rely on the Stars in the Heavens (as interpreted for us by some mystic); nor can we trust tea leaves or animal bones (as interpreted for us by some sorcerer). We need something objective and time-tested; proven and trustworthy; something unchanging and everlasting. We need a word from God – we need The Bible.

And consider this — Left to ourselves we would never imagine the God we find in the Bible. We would never have defined Sin so forthrightly, nor would we have conceived the plan of salvation that is found in Scripture. We would have no satisfactory explanation for good and evil, nor any sensible concept of life after death. We needed “Somebody” to help us understand what we could never have known on our own.

Given the fact that God is Light and Love, it just stands to reason that He would intentionally meet our need for revelation and understanding of those things about which we could know nothing were He to keep silent. And given the immeasurable scope of our needs, God is the only one who could meet them by His Word…. The Bible.
