Light on Your Darkest DayPrint This Post
“If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be a light about me.” (Psalm 139:11).
There are two things we all have in common. One, God loves us; and, two, the devil hates us. The One wants only good for us; the other, only evil. The One wants to build us up and bless us; the other seeks always to tear us down and destroy us. The One brings light into our world; the other darkness.
But this is no tug-o-war; not even close! For in His great love for us the Lord takes even the foul things which the devil does and turns those to our benefit! “You meant it for evil,” Joseph said to his erring brothers, “but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20). Paul assured us that God works all things together for our good (see Rom. 8:28, and Eph.1:11).
We cannot lose with the Lord on our side. He gives us light even on our darkest day.
The Psalmist sang, “For You will light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalm 18:28). Or, in other words, “the LORD will give me a revelation of His love in my darkness.” And, with this in mind, let’s look again at the verse that opens today’s reading: “If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be a revelation of God’s love about me.” (Psalm 139:11).
How wonderful of the Lord to take all things, even the ill-intentioned devices of darkness, and turn them for our good.
The prophet Micah knew this. Hear his triumphant faith speak above the condemning voices of accusation – “Rejoice not against me, O my enemy! When I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light to me” (Mic 7:8). “Love lifted me!” the song writer said; and when, on even our darkest day, the revelation of God’s love comes shining through, we will say the same!
God loves you; always. Even on your bad days. And He is ever working all things for your good – to make you more and more like Jesus….the Light of the World.
