The Pen of a Ready Writer

“My tongue is the pen of a ready writer” (Psalm 45:1).

CalligraphyPenOne of the first prayers I prayed as a young believer called by God  to preach, comes from the words of David the Psalmist. “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things from Your Word” (Psalm 119:18).

Indeed the Lord has faithfully answered that, and continues to do so to this very day.

One of the greatest things He has ever shown me in the Word is the truth about GRACE. I have preached this message for the past 30+ years, and will continue to do so as God gives me grace.

Beginning today I will post a series of devotions that pass along to you the wondrous things the Lord has shown me about Grace. My purpose in writing this series of devotions is to show you the extraordinary measures to which God has gone in order to insure our success in being the men and women He created us to become; to be men and women who stand in grace and reign in life.

The Psalmist said, “My tongue is the pen of a ready writer” (Psalm 45:1). If permissible I should like to take the Psalmist’s words and make them my own as I undertake this truly ambitious project of unpacking the truth about God’s grace day by day here for your thoughtful consideration.

This will take some time to accomplish. And for this reason I ask you to make a commitment here – stay with me through this series. I know how easy it is to read a few days, and then drift off…only to pick back up sometime later. If you approach this series of postings in that way you will miss out on the heart of this message.

I will faithfully do my part of writing and posting, and ask that you read each post as the case builds. The conclusion will be well worth the time you invest!

While offered in the brevity and repetition of daily devotions, there will be nothing brief and repetitious about this at all. This ongoing series of postings represent the fruit of several years of deep reflection, arduous study, impassioned preaching, continual musing, and uncompromising refinement.

This message has burned in my heart for many years, and flooded my thoughts with such wonder and delight that I have longed for others to know of it, and to experience the truth of it for themselves. So, if ever a man could be ready to tell what he knows – it is I; and if ever the time was right to tell it, it is now. Thus, my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

So prepare yourself as we excel into the lofty heights of the most astounding revelation ever given to us from Jesus.

Join me tomorrow on a journey of a lifetime!

For several months now your posts have been foundational as I listen to Father in my daily time with Him. Your post today was a direct word for me. After 15 years of full time ministry the pruning for a new season has begun. The essence , the perfume of years of study, teaching & ministry is being distilled . My tongue, my voice to be heard in the pen of a ready writer.

I will be praying for you James. I understand the loneliness, the agony of writing but also the joy of the creative act. At age 69 I feel the urgency to for the next generation to know their God. I sense your passionate urgency as well.

Thank you for all you will share over these days.

I look forward to this series because so much has been attributed to grace which isn’t grace at all! I love truth and know that that is what you will be presenting in this very needy hour of history. Blessings…
