The Five Principles of Prosperity (Introduction)Print This Post
“Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity” (Psalm 118:25)
First permit me to remove a stumbling block before we proceed any further. There has been much said and done in the past several years that has brought scandal and shame to the whole idea of “prosperity” – not only in the corporate world, but especially in the Church world.
This series of posts will not focus upon the raw acquisition of riches, but rather the breaking forth through grace into a lifestyle of blessing and generosity.
The Hebrew word translated prosperity in our text means “to push forward, and break out.” It is a picture of overcoming the containment caused by being in a restrictive place. While this certainly applies to the matter of money – it has far reaching implications in every area of life.
God wants His people to prosper, and He is pleased when they do so. “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.” (Psa 35:27)
Peace is the possession of adequate resource. God’s will is that each of us find the grace He provides to bring us to that place. “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” (2Co 9:8)
The question is put to each one of us personally – “Are you willing to push forward until you break through whatever barrier is holding you back from being and doing everything God wants you to be and to do? Some have surrendered in passivity and defeat to a life that is less than God’s best. Others follow a misguided path of selfish ambition and accumulate great wealth, which they firmly clutch in tight hands. Neither of these are what the Lord wants.
He wants to bless us with “life, and that more abundant”(John 10:10). He wants us never settle for anything less than His best for us. And He wants us to abound in generosity at every opportunity to do so.
If this is what you want, then buckle your seat belt – ‘cause you are in for one amazing journey with Jesus!
